Meet New Jersey – Barry Wolfson, M.S.
Hypnosis Counseling Center
Are you looking for an experienced hypnotherapist in Flemington, Princeton, or Central New Jersey?
Biography: Barry Wolfson is the director of Hypnosis Counseling Center and has more than 40 years of experience helping clients pursue healthier habits, greater confidence, improved performance, and meaningful personal change.
Barry combines formal education in counseling with extensive hypnotherapy training. His approach is practical, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that lasting change is more likely to develop through understanding and appropriate guidance than through pressure or force.
More Than 40 Years of Experience
Barry’s introduction to hypnotherapy occurred while he was coaching college basketball at Upsala College and completing his master’s degree in counseling. During that period, a family connection introduced him to hypnosis, and he began training with David Petrie, an influential professional in the field.
What began as a professional interest soon became a lifelong vocation. In 2026, Hypnosis Counseling Center celebrated 40 years of serving individuals, groups, educational organizations, businesses, and community programs.
Over the course of his career, Barry has worked with:

A Personal Commitment to Smoking Cessation
Barry’s dedication to smoking cessation is deeply personal. He experienced the deaths of both parents and other relatives at a young age, with several of those losses involving smoking-related illnesses.
Those experiences helped shape his professional mission. Barry has spent much of his career helping people examine the thoughts, emotional associations, routines, and automatic behaviors connected to smoking.
Smoking cessation results vary. Some people may also benefit from medical guidance, approved cessation medications, nicotine-replacement products, counseling, or other evidence-based support.

People frequently contact Barry because they understand what they want to change but have difficulty translating that knowledge into consistent behavior.
Barry helps clients explore the internal associations and learned patterns connected to the problem. Sessions may use relaxation, focused attention, guided imagery, positive suggestion, counseling principles, and practical reinforcement strategies.
His goal is not simply to help clients feel better during a session. It is to help them develop tools, awareness, and a greater sense of personal control that they can continue using afterward.
